If you have seen any of the Godfather films you will have heard the line, “It’s not personal, it’s business”, but how true is this? Running your own business means that separating business from your own personal take on things can certainly be very tricky.

It may be the case that you haven’t really noticed how your own personal emotions affect your business decisions. But they do. Most problems in business are personal. Why is that? Well, the truth is, it is quite a tough task to separate personal emotion from the way you handle business.

Take a difficult situation. Let’s imagine for a second that you have someone working for you who is making life tough for everyone else. Morale is low, productivity is low and overall business and work life is not ideal. What do you do? If you are someone who naturally shy’s away from conflict then you will probably find a situation like this very hard to deal with. Your own personal emotions will get in the way of you making a decisive choice.

Don’t hide

If you want to build a successful business then you need to learn to not hide from your personal problems and the way you deal with emotion in business. It is time to confront them if the best way possible in order to push your business further.

Acknowledgement

You will inevitably be more successful if you acknowledge your business problems and your personal problems and have an awareness as to how you react to them. It is time to start dealing with things differently in order to get the best out of your business.

By dealing with your business problems in a head-on fashion you will find that you get much more done.

Take action today

Today is the day that you take action. Whatever that issue is that you have been procrastinating on, today is the day you deal with it. It could be a difficult call that you need to make, it could mean that you need to let someone go or that you need to complete a challenging project. Whatever it is, you need to tackle it head on and make a step towards solving it.

We often avoid situations in life that are difficult. If, like in the situation above, you need to let someone go it is important that you don’t let the personal affect the business. Remember in instances like that, you still have a business to run and other staff to take care of.

Be aware that business is in fact personal, but it is not always helpful or healthy to make it so. Take a look at the challenges of your business today and take the personal element away, and watch how much your business grows.
